This spring the East Asia Center will be hosting community gathering events beginning Thursday, February 16, with food and socializing starting at 5:30 p.m. in New Cabell Hall 236. In tandem we'll be showing a retrospective of Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing's filmography, with the film showtimes beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The first film in our series will be the classic A Better Tomorrow, directed by John Woo in 1986. Before making his turn to international stardom moving to Hollywood in the late 1990s to direct big budget action flicks like Face/Off and Mission Impossible 2, Woo cut his teeth in the Hong Kong cinema on the 1970s and 80s, and few films are more representative of his early work than this Chow-Yun Fat and Leslie Cheung led crime drama. We hope you'll join us to take in the action, as this is truly a landmark film for the Asian crime genre.
