The Korean Wave post-2010 signifies a departure from the previous Korean Wave in terms of global awareness, areas of expansion, production scale, and media platforms. The surge in popularity of music, movies, games, dramas, and webtoons has expanded the global influence of the Korean Wave beyond Asia, reaching Europe, North America, and South America. The recognition of the Korean Wave, centered on the cultural industry, has further extended to fine arts, encompassing literature, classical music, dance, traditional arts, as well as lifestyle elements like food, fashion, and cosmetics. This evolving phenomenon is proposed to be referred to as "post-Hallyu."

Join the East Asia Center as we host Dong-yeun Leeprofessor at Korea National University of Arts, who will share some of his thoughts on the cultural characteristics of post-Hallyu. His talk "The Formation of Cultural Capital in the Post-Hallyu Era" will be held Tuesday, February 20, from 12:00 - 1:15 pm in Wilson 142. To join remotely, register here. The event is free and open to the public, with lunch provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
