Nicole Constable, professor of anthropology and of gender, sexuality, and women’s studies, and research professor in international studies, at the University of Pittsburgh, will be joining us to deliver this year's Coughlin Lecture on Southeast Asia, "Southeast Asian Migrant Workers in Asia: Lessons, Cautions, and Questions."

A sociocultural anthropologist whose primary research focus is gendered migration in and from Asia, Constable is also very interested in different modes of ethnographic and anthropological writing.  Her main geographical research areas are Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore. She is author of five monographs, including three about Southeast Asian migrant workers: Maid to Order in Hong Kong: Stories of Migrant Workers; Born Out of Place: Migrant Mothers and the Politics of International Labor, and Passport Entanglements: Protection, Care, and Precarious Migrations.
