Please join the Corcoran Department of History on October 23rd, 3:30 - 6:00 pm, for the Cross Lecture "The Idea of South Asia" with Neeti Nair. 

“South Asia” as a category, originated in the United States during the Second World War. However, “South Asia” has taken a life of its own, thriving in non-governmental organizations, and intermittently recognized by the states that comprise South Asia. The talk will trace the elements of the idea of South Asia, mark its acceptance in the tumultuous aftermath of the Partition of the subcontinent, and discuss its potential through the faultiness of subsequent wars and political developments. 

The Cross Lecture will take place in the Auditorium of the Harrison Institute, in the Special Collections Library, with a reception to follow. Food and drinks will be provided.
