Join the East Asia Center as we welcome Gregory Smits, Professor of History and Asian Studies at Penn State University, for his talk "A New Model of Early Ryukyuan History." The event will be held Friday, October 29, from 3:15-5:00 p.m. EST in Maury Hall 115.
Smits is the author of Visions of Ryukyu: Identity and Ideology in Early-Modern Thought and Politics (1999), Maritime Ryukyu, 1050-1650 (2019), as well as several other books. He has just completed the manuscript of a follow-up volume to Maritime Ryukyu.
