The UVA East Asia Center is very happy to be joined by Merav Shohet, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Boston University, for a special Nelson Lecture on Southeast Asia "Silence and Sacrifice: End of Life Care, Love, and Betrayal in Vietnam." Prof. Shohet will be discussing her recent book Silence and Sacrifice: Family Stories of Care and the Limits of Love in Vietnam, an ethnographic account which draws on over a decade of research based in central Vietnam, exploring what takes place across generations to families who lived through colonialism, war, and severe political and economic upheaval. The talk is free and open to the public and will be held in person, Friday, December 2, from 3:15 - 4:30 p.m. in New Cabell Hall 309.
