How to Make it in Hollywood
Want to work in the entertainment industry? Let's talk "Breaking Into New Hollywood"
Everyone loves a Hollywood rags-to-riches story, but that’s not how it usually happens for the tens of thousands of people who work in the entertainment industry. For many just starting out, and even those already in the business, the road can feel mysterious and overwhelming.
Ada Tseng and Jon Healey are authors of "Breaking Into New Hollywood: A Career Guide to a Changing Industry." Collecting advice from over 300 industry professionals, the book (published by The Los Angeles Times and Simon & Schuster) guides us through some of Hollywood's most sought-after careers, including acting, writing, directing and producing.
It also illuminates dozens of other behind-the-scenes careers that are integral to making Hollywood feel like magic -- from the location managers and production designers that secure places to shoot; the costume designers, make-up artists and hairstylists that make the on-camera talent look the part; to the agents and managers that help the Hollywood dreamers their jobs.
Join the Department of Media Studies for the talk, co-sponsored by the Institute of the Humanities and Global Cultures, on Friday, October 3, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in Warner 104.
